Yeo Tae-Hwa

Abstract
Purpose : Through this study, we ultimately confirmed the effect of level of patient safety knowledge and patient safety culture on level of accident report about patient safety, and then compared and analyzed the rank difference from this consequence.

Methods : This study was conducted to confirm the patient safety knowledge of 138 medics deployed forward and rear military hospital and working in outpatient clinic and ward, utilizing the questionnaire developed by AHRQ Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture.

Results : The main results of this study are as follows. First, the majority of medics(105s, 76.1%) answered that the appropriate time for patient safety training is immediately after being deployed the hospital and department, and 123 medics(89.1%) selected that giving awards would increase the interest of medics in patient safety. Second, the level of patient safety knowledge has a significant impact on the level of accident report about patient safety. Namely the higher knowledge of the level of patient safety elevates the level of accident report about patient safety. Third, the study has shown that the level of patient safety culture has a significant impact on the level of accident report about patient safety. Fourth, the rank used for control variable has no impact on the level of patient safety knowledge as well as on the level of patient safety culture.

Conclusion : This study has shown that the higher levels of patient safety knowledge and culture increase the level of accident report about patient safety, and appropriate training time to increase the interest in patient safety is immediately after the deployment to hospitals and departments. In conclusion, having taken a look at one aspect of patient safety management activities for medics in military hospital, we need to make an effort to increase the patient safety knowledge by training immediately after the deployment to hospitasl and departments, to develop various awards for increasing the interest and to foster a positive patient safety culture.
